Paul Beusterien moved to Alameda in 2001 and has enjoyed living here ever since. He received a Masters in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan and is now a Software Engineer at Google. He commutes by bicycle and ferry to his San Francisco office. Paul has served on his local homeowners board since 2012 and the Harbor Bay master association board since 2014. In those roles, he’s developed budgets, hired an executive director, and worked through numerous community issues. He’s worked with the city on the 2015-16 FEMA flood plain roll out and on the 2018-19 Climate Action Plan Task Force. He was an Alameda City Council candidate in 2022 and is currently on the local committee working to put Ranked Choice Voting on the 2024 ballot.

Joyce Boyd grew up poor in a housing project in Detroit, Michigan. The first in her family to graduate from college, she moved to the Bay Area after falling in love with the area. She is a CPA with a career in nonprofit finance with a specialty in affordable housing. As a lifelong Democrat she believes we must all give back to our community. She resides in Alameda with her spouse and children. You can find her renovating her old Victorian, biking around town, or growing vegetables in her garden. She is on the school parcel tax oversight committee and the board of the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society. She was an officer on the PTA Council. She has taken the Leadership Alameda training and as a board member wants to contribute to a wide-ranging dialogue about issues in Alameda.

He worked for the California Democratic party in 2000 and helped elect progressive Asian American educator, Mike Honda, to Congress. He has been an active volunteer for Democrats in 2016, 2018, and 2020 elections, for local ballot measure to improve school funding, and, more recently, an advocate for schools reopening during the pandemic.
